Abstract

The purpose of this study is to define the ideational meaning and function of ideational meaning in the English news  in the case study of the death of Qasem Soleimani. This study reveals the Ideational meaning of type in the English news headline of death of Qasem Soleimani and also aims to explain the function of the transitivity analysis trough decriptive the text. The reseacher used qualitative descriptivemethods, and describes the clauses in the English news headlines.Theory’s Haliday used in this research. Data used from CNN, BBC, CNBC and Jakarta Post official website. The procedure of collecting data included selecting, reading and identifying the data. In analyzing, the data are collected by reading and segmenting them into clauses. The transitivity analysis are conducted to figure out the type of process in all of the clauses, and then explained each type of process found in the news.The results showed that the material processes, verbal processes, mental procesess, behavioural procesess, relational procesess and existensial procesess are found in this research. The function of all processes is to indicate that there is an action performed by the actor who is the actor of each action and the circumstances in which it occurs. Also the construe the inner perspektife of the news death of qasaem soleimani as represented by mental procesess and behavioural, meanwhile the outer perspektife as represented material, verbal procesess.
