Abstrak

This research aims to identify the derivational affixes in the song lyrics on Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream album, and to analyze the meanings of words that containing derivational affix in the song lyrics on Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream album. This research using a qualitative descriptive method, the research data were purposively selected out of twelve songs and analysis based on morphology theory by Katamba and semantic theory by Chaer. The results show there are 37 words with derivational affix which changes the part of speech. Analyze the meaning of the words shows that despite the lexical meaning were fixed on the meaning in the dictionary, but the contextual meaning in song lyric undergoes shifts. This research showed that affixation is a branch of linguistics that also has a role in song lyrics, not only to form a word structure but also to enrich and change the meaning on creative texts.
